Problems/Comments
The Bethel Aircraft Control and Warning Station (AC&W) consists of 1482 acres located just west of the Bethel Airport, and includes several sites of interest for Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS), the former Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Headquarters Office, and an Air Force White Alice Communications Site (WACS). The Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP) project in this area encompasses a Scrap Metal and Collapsed Building site, a site with Jeeps and 6x6s, a landfill known as "Faulkner's Dump", and the Hangar Lake Dump Site. Soil sampling for petroleum, metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), pesticides and herbicides, dioxins, and chlorinated solvents is planned to be conducted in August 2023.
