Problems/Comments

Adak Island has been subject to extensive contamination, primarily from petroleum compounds and munitions. An Equitable Servitude, Easement, and Right of Entry was finalized in 2003 for Operable Units A and B-1 on Adak Island, Alaska, which describes prohibited activities in the downtown area and throughout Adak Island. The equitable servitude includes groundwater use restrictions in Adak's downtown area, as well as residential use restrictions and excavation restrictions at numerous locations. 9/18/2025 Site Visit CSP staff conducted a site visit to Adak Island September 17-20, 2025. Along with EPA and the Navy, CSP staff attended a Regional Advisory Board (RAB) meeting in Adak to engage with the community and discuss ongoing environmental cleanup efforts at the former Adak Naval Air Station. While on island, CSP joined EPA and the Navy to visit multiple contaminated sites and met with a community member to observe the waterline supplying drinking water from Lake Bonnie Rose.
