Problems/Comments
In 1985, the site was home to the original Yukon Traders Store, which was owned by a previous owner where they sold commercial goods and dispensed fuel from Aboveground Storage Tanks (AST) to the local community. In the late 1980s, a fire occurred and burnt down the first store at this location. By 1995 the four ASTs onsite were decommissioned and removed, and a new, but smaller, store was built on the property. However, in the summer of 2021, the newly constructed Yukon Traders Store burned down from a fire. Currently, the property is mostly an empty gravel lot/pad that locals constructed over the burned area after cleaning up as much burned debris as possible. Other items on the property include a powerline and tin building containing wood and scrap. Due to the history of dispensing fuel at the site, petroleum contamination is suspected in the area. Further, due to the age of the original building, common household contaminant remnants such as asbestos or lead based paint (LBP), could also be present in the gravel and soil at the site.
