Problems/Comments
The Atka Old School Site is located in the "Old Village" portion of Atka, AK. An off-site school was built in 1982 and the site was used for other purposes such as community offices, a post office, and storage. There are five existing structures on the site including the foundation of the Old School Building, a teacher housing building, the old power plant an old shop/storage building, and the old community center/bingo hall. Most of these structures are presently vacant with the exception of the old teacher housing building and the shop/storage building. Unknown Impacts to soil, groundwater, indoor air, and surface water from historical site operations exist at the site. Site operations included a diesel power plant, coal-fired heat, a glycol heat exchanger, drum storage, and potential hazardous building materials.
