Problems/Comments

During excavation for construction of a new building in Cordova, on property owned by the City of Cordova, the contractor found a red-colored paint-like material with a paint thinner odor mixed with soils at the western edge of the site. The red paint and thinner mix was found to have leaked from a drum stored inside a container van at the site. An estimated 17 gallons spilled into soils. Soils were analyzed, found not be hazardous waste, and 70 cubic yards were excavated and thermally treated at an approved facility in Cordova (Soil Processing, Inc.) with Department approval.
