Problems/Comments
The Pillar Mountain Radio Relay Station is a former White Alice Communications Site. The site is located on Kodiak Island approximately 1 mile west of the city of Kodiak; the city and St Paul Harbor lie at the base of the mountain to the south and southeast. Pillar Creek and Pillar Creek Reservoir are located north of the site. Clean Sweep occurred in 1997 and included removal and closure of 4 ASTs and 1 UST, the assessment and removal of PCB-contaminated soil, and assessment and decontamination of PCB-contaminated concrete floor surfaces. Some PCBs and DRO above cleanup levels remain in the fractured bedrock; these areas are covered by at least 18 inches of soil cap and are to be recorded within state land records and the Air Force Base Master Plan. Point of contact: Lori Roy, Project Manager, 611th CES/CEV 10471 20th Street, Elmendorf AFB, AK 99506-2270; Telephone (907) 552-7697. Last staff assigned Norberg (907) 269-3077.
