Site Characterization Report Approved |
ADEC received a Comprehensive Remedial Investigation Report, dated May 2000 and prepared by Jacobs Engineering. It documents the ~ 300 gal. UST was removed in Sept. 1997. Due to site access issues no soil was removed from the site, soil excavated to remove the tank was used as backfill on-site. Field screening and observations indicate a release ocurred. Two test pits were installed to screen for downgradient impacts, none were evident. Confirmation samples collected from the initial excavation contained DRO up to 11,000 mg/kg, RRO up to 1,300 mg/kg, and low level BTEX and PAHs (below cleanup levels). The report recommends further work including evaluating additional soil removal and conducting groundwater and surface water monitoring. |

CERCLA Proposed Plan |
ADEC received the draft final Proposed Plan #7 addressing Unalaska Valley Management Area 11. The plan recommends Alternative 2 (Corrective Action Complete/Cleanup Complete with ICs) for UST 3260. Excavation of remaining contamination is impractical due to very shallow groundwater and potential release into surface waters, therefore as an IC residual contamination will be documented to assist in future land management planning. |

DEC received a work plan addendum for the Amaknak FUDS Unalaska Valley work plan, regarding two requested deviations to the work plan. These deviations were for USTs 3065 and 3260, and included:
1. the incorporation of silica gel cleanup methods to limit biogenic interference in the laboratory analytical results
2. the use of an excavator to install monitoring wells within the source areas during excavation/backfill activities.
DEC reviewed and approved the work plan addendum on July 17, 2023. |
