Heavy metal contamination of surface water and marine organisms and intertidal sediments. Petroleum product contamination of soil. 10/26/2023 Site Visit DEC visited the site with EPA staff and contractors to prepare for the Feasibility Study. Activities included a site walk and observations, EPA Office of Research and Development staff installing biochar test plots, contractors collecting test volumes of tailings for a treatability study to inform development of a confined disposal facility, porewater sampling, and a meeting with representatives of the Organized Village of Kasaan. 3/8/2024 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other DEC reviewed a treatability study workplan. The plan is to send site material which was collected during last October's field visit to a lab where aliquots will be mixed in varying ratios with cement. Samples will be tested before and after treatment for a variety of parameters including total metals, leachable metals by TCLP, pH, and pH-dependent leachability. No regulatory issues were identified, and DEC concurred the experimental design would provide useful information for development of the site remedy. Nick Waldo
