Problems/Comments
Fort Abercrombie was established as a WWII coastal defense installation in June 1941 and contained 678 acres. The site was used as a coastal defense installation by the U.S. Army form 1941-1945 and included 25 Quonset huts, two 8-inch guns, three concrete bunkers and a searchlight. Current features include the war reserve magazine, three generator houses, searchlight bunker, distant electrical control pillboxes, a ready ammunition bunker, a spotting and plotting room, warehouses, the garrison area, a pump house at Gertrude Lake, and an observation platform. Possible sources of hazardous substances or petroleum contamination include areas where aboveground storage tanks, underground storage tanks, or drums were disposed of or kept on site. However no site records to document that such sources existed were available, and aerial photographs show no trace of tank excavations, drums, or other storage or disposal areas. CERCLIS ID AKFSN1002103, status no further action. FUDS F10AK0561.
