Problems/Comments
Petroleum hydrocarbon and metals contamination in soil and groundwater was discovered during dry well abandonment and limited site characterization. Drinking water supplies are not affected. Marathon was required to conduct additional site assessment to determine the extent of the contamination and develop a site remediation plan.

3/10/2004 | Update or Other Action | File number assigned and entered into the Fileroom DB and CS DB. | Alyce Hughey |
8/30/2005 | GIS Position Updated | Using Figure 1 and 2 from a Dry Well Abandonment and Environmental Characterization Report Kenai GAs Field Pad 33-1, from OASIS Environmental, Inc., dated August 3, 2000, in conjunction with TopoZone Pro and the KPB Parcel Lookup, entered the coordinates for this site. Metadata includes No Topo Basemap, TopoZone Pro Street Maps, Black and White Aerial Photo, on a Medium Size Map, View Scale 1:10,000, Coordinate Datum NAD83. High degree of confidence in accuracy of location. | Alyce Hughey |
4/24/2006 | Update or Other Action | Re-reviewed the file and reports after discussing the site in a meeting with Marathon staff last week. Sent a letter requiring a site assessment to determine full horizontal and vertical extent of soil and GW contamination at the pad. Both soil and GW contamination exceeding ADEC cleanup standards exists at the pad. | Donald Seagren |
9/18/2006 | Update or Other Action | Reviewed 2006 monitoring report. RRO is the only constituent above Table C cleanup levels. A full site assessment can be postponed until pad abandonment. Annual monitoring will take place to ensure contaminants aren't migrating. Teh bluff and beach will be visually examined and any seeps sampled to encure contaminants aren't migrating into Cook Inlet. All QA/QC procedures were not followed (no duplicate, no QA/QC checklist included). Defficiencies were pointed out to Marathin for inclusion in future reports. | Donald Seagren |
4/4/2007 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | Donald Seagren
5/11/2007 | Site Characterization Workplan Approved | Donald Seagren
7/17/2007 | Update or Other Action | reviewed and approved request to beneficially reuse drill cuttings from the installation of monitor wells at the pad. | Donald Seagren |
9/11/2007 | Update or Other Action | developed draft conditioal closure letter and sent for review and finalization. | Donald Seagren |
10/2/2007 | Conditional Closure Approved | DRO contaminated soil remains at about 12' - 15' bgs. Unable to remove it due to affecting the structural integrity of the building. Soils will be addressed when the building is removed and the soils are accessible. | Donald Seagren |
10/2/2007 | Institutional Control Record Established | Marathon is required to notify ADEC once the soil beneath the building becomes accessible for the proper actions to be taken at that time. Soil sampling and/or a site assessment will be required to determine the current contaminant levels. A decision will be made based on that analytical data. | Donald Seagren |
6/12/2008 | Update or Other Action | Site transferred from Don Seagren to Paul Horwath per Linda Nuechterlein. | Alyce Hughey |
11/14/2011 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 74315 Dry Well Abandonment. | Alyce Hughey |
