Problems/Comments
This site has been reported to have been discovered during City sewer and water work July 13/14, 2002. Soil was stockpiled near 6th Street and Poltes Avenue initially. It was moved to a lined, fenced and bermed landfarm area on the Hunter Store property. The three tanks at this location are not going to be part of the tank farm consolidation. According to the owner, the tanks are no longer in commercial use and he is trying to sell them. He stated that the railroad car tank is empty; the southernmost, gray tank contains fuel oil; and the northernmost, red tank contains gasoline. The latter two tanks were almost empty. He was not aware of any releases from these tanks. Visual Assessment: The three tanks are situated in an unlined and unbermed area, along the east side of the residential road and approximately 100 to 150 feet east of the river. One soil sample collected approximately 5 feet west of the west end of the RR tank at a depth of 3.5 feet bgs. Fuel odor was noticed while advancing this boring. GRO concentrations were 7,350 mg/kg and benzene levels were 272 mg/kg.

5/6/2009 | Update or Other Action | In a telephone conservation with Mr. Leslie Hunter, Jr. he confirmed that the soil is still landspread on the Hunter Store property. It is still contained in a lined and bermed area, but the fence is down. He said that the soil had been fertilized and tilled twice annually for the first two or three years and has been seeded successfully since then. There is old grass from last year on it now and it appears that the grass will return this summer. We discussed the fact that no new sampling has been done. | Pam Clemens |
