Problems/Comments

Building T-2039 was built during the 1940s as an airplane hangar. It is unknown when the automotive repair garage was constructed. Sometime in the late 1970s, the hangar was converted from its original use to house additional automobile repair and automotive hobby shop facilities. Together, the hangar and garage formed the auto hobby shop facilities and were operated and maintained by the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department of the NAF Adak. USTs T-2039-B and C were located at the southern end of the automotive hobby garage neat the northeast corner of the Yakutat Hangar Building. UST T-2039-B contained JP-5 used to fuel a heating boiler inside the hobby garage. UST T-2039-C contained waste oil and fuel collected by the floor drains within the garage building. Both USTs removed in 1995. Limited soil removal selected under SAERA in OU A ROD. Aesthetic remedy completed in 1999. Site was removed from the OU A ROD the OU A ROD amendment for regulation under 18 AAC 75. Site is currently in the proposed plan stage.
