Problems/Comments
Ordnance or ordnance-related problems. The Finger Bay Southeast Minefield is located south of downtown Adak at the head of Finger Bay. The proposed location straddles the entrance to a narrow valley separating Finger Bay from a large valley to the southwest. The Finger Bay Southeast Minefield was intrusively investigated in 1998 along with 12 other proposed minefield locations outside of the urban area on Adak. Although the location for the minefield presented in the training memorandum was inexact, it was possible to identify the most likely location in the field based upon terrain and professional knowledge of military defensive tactics. Only three metallic anomalies were found and investigated along the Finger Bay Southeast survey lane. These anomalies consisted of two cans and a small piece of corrugated metal, which may have been siding from a historical Quonset hut. No mines or OE wastes were discovered at this site. NOFA selected in the OU B-1 ROD for this site. Draft Close Out Report for Partial Delisting submitted for Department review on June 16. Comments were submitted to the Navy on August 16.
