Request for NFRAP submitted on 11/20/03 by Williams. Shannon & Wilson had installed three soil borings and temporary wells in 2000 for a limited Phase II Assessment. The assessment was completed due to possible transfer of the property to Usibelli Coal. The only contaminant to exceed cleanup levels was DRO in MW-1 at 7.28 mg/L. This well appeared to be placed outside the footprint of the former tank farm. On 11/24/03, Usibelli submitted corrections to the 2000 report. Usibelli noted that the corrections did not change the conclusions of the report. |

Site characterization report submitted by Shannon & Wilson. Seven soil boring and co-located temporary well points were installed around the former tank farm. Groundwater flow direction was south-southwest with a gradient of 0.014 to 0.019 foot/foot. Petroleum compounds were present in soil (DRO, naphthalene, ethylbenzene, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and 1,3,6-trimethylbenzene) and groundwater (naphthalene and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene) above DEC cleanup levels. PAHs were tested in SB17-03 and 1-methylnaphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene were present above soil cleanup levels. The most contaminated soil sampling location appeared to be SB17-03, which is located approximately 100 feet south of the former tank farm and near the southern property boundary. Some groundwater contamination was found south and southwest of the former tank farm but at low levels. During well development and sampling, temporary wells did not recharge well. One well remained dry and was not sampled. |
