Problems/Comments

EPA Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) collected a soil sample near a rusted drum on the Lot 3 portion of the Former Used Defense Site (FUDS). Lab analysis for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons Method 418.1 showed a 2700 mg/kg result. GID is 140 acres on Passage, Whale, McClellan, Beardslee, Galankin, Bamboroshni and Kayak Islands in Sitka Sound. Soil samples collected from Lot 1 on Whale Island, belonging to the Alaska Trust Land Office, showed detectable TPH levels below the Method 2 pathway to groundwater cleanup levels. John W. Williams is the only individual living on the island, he runs a small sawmill on Lot 2. EPA ID# AKSFN1002127.
