Interim Removal Action Approved |
In August 1992, DEC approved the use of 200 cubic yards of DRO-contaminated soil from the sewage treatment plant (WP32 STP) expansion project to be combined with 4500 cubic yards of waste asphalt material removed from the Asphalt Lake sites SS63/SS39. This was to be used as road surface asphalt on Mullins Pit Road, an existing gravel road south east of the main runway at Eielson. The section of road to be treated is approximately 2.1 miles in length. The purpose of the project was to eliminate dust. The file number for this project is 107.38.071. |

Meeting or Teleconference Held |
Meeting in Seattle with EAFB and EPA. RI documented a removal action of a known contaminant, asphalt. Although some high levels of asphalt remain subsurface, there is not groundwater contamination. This site will require no further action. |

Update or Other Action |
(Old R:Base Action Code = NFA - No Further Action Required (CERCLA)). These 10 Eielson AFB OU 3, 4 and 5 source areas (ST27, WP33, SS36, SS37, SS39, SS63, SS64, LF02, and LF06) will receive no further remedial action under CERCLA because they present little risk to human health and the environment. This determination was based on a remedial investigation/baseline risk assessment and a site-wide draft ecological risk assessment. Although no further action is required, the groundwater at these source areas will continue to be monitored as part of the Site-Wide Program to confirm the results of the Remedial Investigation. |

ADEC agreed to decrease sampling of the North Boundary Wells from annual sampling to biennial. Upcoming measurements will be summer 2007, 2009, 2011, etc. Concentrations of VOCs, SVOCs, and metals in the sentinel wells have been monitored annually since 1992 and there has been no detection of contamination. |

Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other |
2012-Final installation-wide monitoring program (IWMP) report received June, 24 2013. During the 2012 season eight monitoring wells were installed. One of these wells replaced historic wells that had been decommissioned and seven were installed in new locations. The eight new wells were sampled, and there was no detected COCs (Contaminant of concern) or COPCs (Contaminant of potential concern) with levels that exceeded current MCL (Maximum contaminant level) or ADEC groundwater levels. Further discussion of plume behavior is not warranted at this time as no COCs and/or COPCs are known to have impacted groundwater quality at Source Areas SS39/63. |

2013-Draft installation-wide monitoring program (IWMP) report received March, 26 2014. During the spring and fall 2013 monitoring events, all eight IWMP wells were sampled. There was no detected COCs (Contaminant of concern) or COPCs (Contaminant of potential concern) with levels that exceeded current MCL (Maximum contaminant level) or ADEC groundwater levels. Future sampling results will be used to confirm absence of ROD COCs exceeding FRGs in groundwater. |
