Problems/Comments

300 gallon diesel spill caused by a split hose on the generator fuel supply line. Free product observed on ground surface in and around generator shed down a slope path to a driveway finally pooling under an abandoned vehicle. Half of the fuel was recovered in response effort using pumps and absorbent pads. Drinking water well and lake are down-gradient of spill site. Transfer from PERP. Beaverhouse Lake Estates Subdivision, Lot 9, Block 1. After numerous failed attempts to initiate a cleanup, institutional controls in the form of a deed Notice of Environmental Contamination were filed with the Recorder's Office in July 2015.

12/5/2005 Update or Other Action Received a phone call from the son of the owner from Oregon. His father has passed away and he is handling his affairs. He talked to his uncle (a co-owner of the property) about the cleanup. He stated the contaminated soil had been excavated and remediated and clean gravel placed in the excavation. All the records are in strage in Alaska. He will be up in 3 or 4 months and will research the records and provide copies of any documentation he finds. A decision on further assessment/cleanup will be made at that time. There is a renter on the property with no further complaints or concerns. Donald Seagren

12/1/2014 Update or Other Action Sent letter to RP after our phone conversation requesting that the drinking water be tested by an environmental professional and the results be submitted to DEC for our decision making process. In addition, I let him know that I did not see any problem with pouring a concrete foundation over the area of the original shed. I advised him that a NEC and ICs would be placed. Also important to note that the entire yard has been re-landscaped post-spill with no known DEC involvement prior to the property changing ownership to the current owner. 6/2/2015 Public Notice NOTICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINATION Recording District: Palmer Official State Business – No Charge As required by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), Grantor, pursuant to 18 AAC 75.375 b (3), Bob Reid, Grantee, as the owner of the subject property, hereby provide public notice that the property located at: Legal Description: Beaverhouse Lk Est Block 1 Lot 9 Address: 813 S. Boone Way Wasilla, AK 99654 has been subject to a discharge or release, regulated under 18 AAC 75, Article 3, as revised April 8, 2012. On April 16, 2001, a diesel fuel spill at the site was reported to the ADEC by a tenant after returning home to find the power off and a spill occurring. Approximately 300 gallons of diesel fuel was lost as a result of a split fuel hose between the fuel pump and the carburetor. The fuel saturated the floor of the generator shed and the ground outside around it. The ADEC attempted to contact the homeowner at the time, with no success. An emergency response contractor was activated and removed 125 gallons of diesel fuel via vac-truck and another 20 gallons using absorbent pads. This left approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel in the soil. Petroleum contamination may remain in soil and groundwater above approved cleanup levels; however ADEC has determined there is no unacceptable risk to human health or the environment as long as the contamination is properly managed. The drinking water well on site has been tested and is free of petroleum contamination. The possible contamination near and beneath the generator building will be managed using institutional controls. Danielle Duncan
