RP Silver Bay Logging is in bankruptcy. Cleanup contractor (Southeast Management Services - Tom Hanna) reports site should be clean, and all sampling and documentation is in file. 250 cubic yards of petroleum contaminated soil was removed from the site and is sitting in the Silver Bay yard in Wrangell. In the following year we will recieve the report once the bankruptcy trustee releases funds to cover the work. |

An Institutional Control will be documented in the ADEC Database identifying the nature and extent of contamination remaining on site.
In accordance with 18 AAC 75.325(i), ADEC approval shall be obtained prior to removal and/or disposal of soil or groundwater from this site. If excavation is planned, a plan to address the contamination remaining shall be submitted to ADEC for review and approval.
In accordance with 18 AAC 75.380(d)(2) ADEC may require additional site assessment, monitoring, remediation, and/or other necessary actions at this facility should new information become available that indicates contamination at this site may pose a threat to human health or the environment.

This site was closed in 2006 however the most recent data from the ADEC Solid Waste Program, and Prevention Preparedness and Response indicate that this site no longer meets the criteria for a Cleanup Complete with Institutional Control Designation. Multiple releases were reported in 2011 and 2012 which required remedial action with site remediation activities occurring in 2013. This site was transferred to the Contaminated Sites Program for management in 2018. |

Soil excavation will be conducted during the field work, and several options for soil treatment are established in the plan. Contacted by consultant to discuss the status of the remediation cell after they inspected the site. The consultant plans to go back out in a few weeks to segregate the soil remaining in the landfarm cell, rebuild the cell with piping for aeration, and then return contaminated soil to the new cell. Soil that appears to be clean will be sampled for confirmation. |
