Problems/Comments
Pipeline failure in three locations released Heavy Atmospheric Gaseous Oil (HAGO) beyond secondary containment impacting a 400 square-foot gravel area. Six drums of impacted soil excavated in spill response effort, final cleanup suspended until spring of 2002.
This site entry describes a release that occurred during the time that Williams operated what is now referred to as the Flint Hills North Pole Refinery Hazard ID# 539. Flint Hills took possession of the refinery in 2004 and has conducted further site characterization and cleanup efforts since that time. A comprehensive onsite cleanup plan for the refinery was approved in October 2014. That cleanup effort includes continued product recovery, operation of a groundwater pump and treat system, limited contaminated soil removal in accessible areas and protection of site workers from vapor intrusion to indoor air. The cleanup effort is currently ongoing as of Fall 2015 and is anticipated to take many years to complete.
ALL FUTURE INFORMATION FOR THE PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED SITES WILL BE TRACKED UNDER HAZARD ID 539 (FLINT HILLS RESOURCES REFINERY) UNTIL THE SITE IS READY FOR CLOSURE.
