Problems/Comments

Site is contaminated with petroleum and lead from broken batteries from historic logging operations. On September 14, 2002 APC and the FS entered into an MOU to establish a process by which APC would provide the FS with a master list of all known LTFs where APC conducted activities on National Forest Land. This site was one of those identified needing further investigation and possible cleanup.

11/30/2005 Institutional Control Record Established The Forest Supervisor issued an Administrative Site Controls Memorandum to the District Ranger on November 18, 2005. 5/19/2006 Update or Other Action NORTECH Report dated May 2006 summarizes soil sampling activities taking place in the spill zone of the Durette Spill in Roosevelt Harbor on Zarmebo Island in August 2005. The DEC concurs with the conclusions of the Report that the weathered petroleum contamination was unrelated to the fresh diesel spill and appeared to have migrated from the former APC Shop area on Forest Road 6590. The diesel range hydrocarbon concentration 2,400 mg/kg detected in the sample is below the approved DRO cleanup level for the APC LTF site of 3,920 mg/kg. The chromium concentration of 50 mg/kg detected in the sample is below the background concentration that DEC approved for the APC LTF site of 63.1 mg/kg. Bruce Wanstall
3/17/2008 Update or Other Action Data are stored for all APC logging camp cleanup sites on a CD in the Cape Pole file. Bill Janes
3/2/2010 Institutional Control Record Removed ICs are removed as an administrative action. The remaining contamination is noted on the U.S. Forest Service GIS records. The current site conditions meet the 2009 site closure criteria. Evonne Reese
