Problems/Comments
On April 30, 2002 a pollution incident occurred adjacent to the tank farm from a fuel bladder tank operated by Quality Asphalt Paving Company (QAP). The Department concluded that QAP has satisfactorily completed the cleanup of the contaminated soil resulting from the spill. The Department has identified the remaining petroleum contaminated soil to be from past heating oil and gasoline spills. When the Chevak Company Corporation tank farm containment liner was removed there was visual evidence supporting that fuel has seeped through the wall of the containment area and into the soil. In addition to the bulk fuel tanks, many drums have been stored in the immediate area. The fuel storage operation on site has been operating for more than 30 years. Site located on the Ningikfak River within the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. Groundwater from community wells is used for drinking water. Chevak is also known as "New Chevak". Pius Tuluks phone number is (907) 858-7920.
