Problems/Comments
The previous owner of the property, Paul Sharpe, left about forty-two 55-gallon drums of unused products on the property, in a driveway on the North side of his property. 32 of the drums contained unused motor oil, 7 drums contained Automatic Transmission Fluid, 2 drums contained diesel and one drum contained ethylene glycol. Many of the drums may have been stored on the property for up to 20 years. The contamination is due to staining from miscellaneous spills over the years or from drums that had leaked. Approximately 45 cubic yards of contaminated soil were removed from the site. A soil sample from the bottom and side walls of the excavation was ND for GRO, DRO was 353 mg/Kg and RRO was 218 mg/kg. Contaminated soil was moved to a site adjacent to the City of Nome Inert Waste Landfill and placed in a lined and bermed containment area. The piles were covered.
