Action Information

Action Date Action Description DEC Staff
12/22/2005 GIS Position Updated Latitude longitude data recorded using aerial photographs and ArcGIS software with personal knowledge of Starfish Cove. The airplane float feature was used as the central location from which the road system leads to facility operation sites. Bruce Wanstall
12/22/2005 Site Ranked Using the AHRM Initial AHRM ranking using data that applies to the general area of the site. Contaminant sources from facility operation at the site could have impacted soil, ground water, surface water and sediment. Migration pathways could include migration to subsurface soil and ground water, volatilization, runoff as raw product form or with surface water and uptake by plants or animals. Direct human exposure routes include ingestion, dermal contact and inhalation; indirect routes include ingestion of impacted plants or animals. Bruce Wanstall
12/22/2005 Site Added to Database Site added to the database. Bruce Wanstall
4/7/2006 Site Characterization Report Approved Site characterization report (prepared by Nortech Engineering, dated 3/22/06) approved this date. Petroleum contaminated soil found at the former fuel depot, former generator area, and the former shop area. Anne Marie Palmieri
4/7/2006 Cleanup Level(s) Approved ACL approved this date based on site-specfic total organic carbon. DRO cleanup level = 4600 mg/kg, RRO cleanup level = 8300 mg/kg. Anne Marie Palmieri
4/24/2006 Cleanup Plan Approved The workplan describes cleanup activities scheduled to take place with week of May 8, 2006 and include the excavation of contaminated soil at several areas of concern at the site. Samples will be collected and analyzed for DRO and/or RRO in order to confirm that all contaminated soil has been removed. Contaminated soil will be screened to 2-inch minus and placed in an unlined bioremediation cell on the western portion of the site. The cell will be located in excess of 100 feet from surface water. Fertilizer and urea will be added to the soil to speed the rate of natural degradation of the petroleum. Samples for DRO and RRO will be collected following the addition of the fertilizer and urea in order to establish a baseline concentration for the cell. If the baseline sample results exceed the site cleanup level, additional samples will be collected in the fall. The two on-site monitoring wells will be sampled for DRO and RRO. A final report will be submitted in the fall. Anne Marie Palmieri
2/26/2007 Exposure Tracking Model Ranking Anne Marie Palmieri
3/2/2007 Interim Removal Action Approved Letter sent this date approving the interim removal action and outlining the only requirement remaining for conditional closure as inclusion of the site on the Forest Service's GIS-database as there is contamination at concentrations above the method 2 levels remaining on-site. Anne Marie Palmieri
11/20/2009 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued Cleanup complete letter issued this date. Anne Marie Palmieri
11/20/2009 Institutional Control Record Removed Institutional Controls have been removed. Anne Marie Palmieri
