Problems/Comments
Years of historical use as a shooting range has contributed to the potential for lead contamination in berm material. Debris has been removed; road has been bermed to discourage access.

7/3/2006 | Interim Removal Action Approved | Interim removal action occurred in fall 2005; including: removal of debris, trash, shell casings; berming of road; placement of 'no trespassing' signs; and collection of soil, groundwater, and surface water samples. Lead contaminated soil classifying as hazardous waste is present, however groundwater and surface water samples show no contamination. DEC has agreed that the USFS can prioritize this cleanup with the rest of its sites due to the limited human health exposure so long as the berm and signs remain in place. Annual monitoring report is required starting May 2007. | Anne Marie Palmieri |
3/27/2008 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | Initial ranking with ETM completed. | Anne Marie Palmieri |
12/4/2008 | Update or Other Action | IC Inspection: Site inspection conducted by USFS on 7/29/08. Berm is intact, discouraging access to the site. | Anne Marie Palmieri |
9/2/2016 | Update or Other Action | On this date, DEC sent a letter to the USFS requesting action on a number of sites. For this site, DEC stated: The site investigation for this former shooting range site was documented in a report dated 2006. Elevated concentrations of metals were found in the soil and lead was found to be present at concentrations which exceeded Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) criteria for hazardous waste. In a letter dated July 3, 2006, DEC requested additional characterization and cleanup, but allowed the USFS to delay the cleanup for five (5) years based on conducting an annual inspection to ensure the continued presence of berm and signage discouraging access. DEC has received one (1) inspection report, dated 2008. In an email discussion in June 2012, the USFS stated that the site was inspected in May 2012 and “things are looking good”, however an inspection report was not provided. At that time, DEC requested that the USFS provide a schedule for additional characterization and cleanup of the site. To date, the USFS has not provided any additional information about this site. DEC hereby requests that by October 10, 2016 the USFS provide a timeline by which they will conduct this additional characterization and cleanup. | Anne Marie Palmieri |
