Contamination confirmed between 6 and 10 feet bgs. Analytical samples show DRO levels between 66 mg/kg and 24,600 mg/kg; GRO was detected but not above ADEC Method 2 levels. Benzene detected in one sample at 0.05 mg/kg. 250 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed and tested. ADEC Solid Waste staff approved stockpiled soil for use as cover material for the landfill. |

On December 1, 2006, DEC issued a PRP letter to Crowley Marine Services noting that property records indicate that the East Front Street property was previously owned by Puget Sound Tug & Barge Company, which was subsequently acquired by Crowley Marine Services. |

DEC received a work plan for a road and drainage plan for the Front Street area of Nome. ADOTPF is proposing road and drainage upgrades in Nome and QAP was contracted to do the work. Restoration Science & Engineering were subcontracted to screen potentially contaminated soil for the project. Any contaminated soil will be excavated and transported to the landfill as possible cover material based on concentrations. |

A site file review indicates that more than one contaminated area along the East Front St. might exist. A section of contaminated soil has been previously removed by Travis/ Peterson in 2005. However, a new workplan was submitted by Restoration, Science and Engineering in 2007 to address contamination that may be found during the Nome City Streets Rehabilitation project and Nome Front Street Storm Drain Improvements. |

On 11/20/2009, Crowley responded to DEC's 2006/2009 letters. The response was specific to Lot 17 of Block 14. The letter indicates that Puget Sound Tug and Barge (PST&B) acquired this property from B&R Tug and Barge, Inc. through a quit claim deed dated October 20, 1975, and that Crowley does not have any records of how this property was used from the acquisition to its sale. The letter further indicates that Crowley had no information regarding potential or existing contamination at the property, nor does it have any information about when the property was transferred to UAF. |

Based on the information available on file it has been determined that three separate source areas exist within and adjacent to the UAF Northwest campus facility. This site will now refer only to the contamination found in the right of way of East Front St. Separate sites now exist for the UAF Northwest Campus heating Oil Tank and the UAF Northwest Campus Parking. |

On December 14, 2011, DEC sent a letter to NovaGold Resources requesting additional information about metal tanks observed in a 1973 photo, which were located at the southern boundary of Lots 15, 16, and 17. The letter requested a response from NovaGold by January 13, 2012. |
