Problems/Comments

During the historic restoration of the Andrew Berg Home Cabin in August of 2003, mercery contamination was discovered. An Interim removal of the known mercury contamination was conducted in September of 2005, with maximum mercury concentrations of 554 mg/kg. The Andrew Berg Home Cabin is listed as National Historical Place, located in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on Tustumena Lake, in the Northeast corner of the lake just north of Indian Creek.

1/25/2010 Final Cleanup Report Reviewed Interim Removal Action was conducted in Sept. 2009. Approx. 8.5 cy of contaminated soil was removed. Analytical confirmation sample results demonstrated that all of the contaminated soil had been removed. None of the results exceeded the default cleanup level of 1.4 mg/kg for mercury.
