Problems/Comments

One well was drilled at Tract T3-C in 1981 and abandoned in 1992. The site containes a gravel pad, reserve pit, and partial flare pit. Soil borings indicated DRO at a maximum concentration of 1,500 mg/kg in the subsurface at the gravel pad and 648 mg/kg in the flare pit. Gravel pad removal is ongoing as of August 2006.

Clean gravel was excavated and used as backfill at Pad 3 Cell 2.Approximately 1,950 cy of restricted use gravel was taken to East Dock for landfarming, and 395 cy of material were used to backfill the reserve pit. Confirmation samples detected DRO at a maximum concentration of 754 mg/kg following additional excavation at Area C. Bill O'Connell
4/10/2008 Conditional Closure Approved The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Contaminated Sites Program (ADEC) reviewed the environmental records associated with exploration site Tract T3-C. This site had been contaminated by the release of a hazardous substance; however, based on the information provided to date, ADEC has determined that no further remedial action is required, and that Tract T3-C can be closed subject to the conditions outlined in the Record of Decision. The hazardous substance contamination has been adequately addressed and does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Bill O'Connell
4/10/2008 Institutional Control Record Established There is contamination remaining above established cleanup levels at Tract T3-C but ADEC has determined there is no unacceptable risk to human health or the environment, and this site will be conditionally closed. This decision is subject to the following conditions: 1. A Notice of Environmental Contamination will be recorded on the ADEC database to document that there is residual contamination remaining on site above the most stringent ADEC cleanup levels; 2. Any proposal to transport soil off site requires ADEC approval in accordance with 18 AAC 75.370 (b) Bill O'Connell
