Problems/Comments
A combined-system dry well was constructed in 1967 of concrete blocks received fluids from five floor drains in vehicle maintenance facility. Petroleum, metals and low-level PCB contamination were confirmed in sludge during 2003 investigation. The well was removed in 2007 and closed by DEC in 2013 upon receipt of the closure reporting. The site was reopened in 2014 when it was determined that additional injection wells remain at the complex. An a 8'x12' garage at the Campbell Creek Science Center has a floor drain IW known to be contaminated with POL. BLM has an active closure plan with EPA for this one tentatively in 2016. Extent of contamination is unknown. Another injection well is a combined system that leads from the Truck Scale building in the warehouse, and is coupled to the roof drain. Since no vehicle servicing is conducting in this scale house, it may not be a Motor Vehicle Waste Disposal Well (MVWDW) and closure sampling may not be required by EPA. Three additional injection wells may exist but are presumed to be roof stormwater disposal drains which do not require closure. BLM plans to coordinate with EPA on their plans to address these wells.

5/24/2004 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Reviewed report from URS documenting small volume of soil contamination at Drywell. Sudge is above cleanup levels for several analytes however soil appears to be below cleanup levels except for background metals. Full characterization of impacted soil and groundwater has not been achieved. Cleanup plan will be submitted when further construction is scheduled. Site will remain open. Note: This review was entered 3/2013 based on review of report from 5/2004. Site ranking was reviewed and this site status changed to confirmed, however low priority ranking is still appropriate. | Fred Vreeman |
