UST Removal Report Former Sunshine Section House Talkeetna, Alaska dated December 1, 2006 submitted by HartCrowser and recieved by ADEC on this date. A 1,000 gallon UST was removed. During excavation approximately 5 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed. 2 confirmation samples collected 5.5ft. bgs at depths of the excavation, indicate benzene contamination of 6.94 mg/kg and 9.29 mg/kg. |

On this date, ADEC received a Phase 2 Soil and Groundwater Investigation Former Sunshine Section House Talkeetna, Alaska, dated May 8, 2009, submitted by Clarus. Three soil borings were advanced: one at the former UST, one 30 ft. North of the former UST, one 42 ft. NE of the former UST. Soil samples collected just above the water table at 5 ft. bgs, sampled for BTEX, GRO, and DRO, contained benzene up to 10.8 mg/kg. Three water samples collected from the same locations as the soil borings contained benzene up to 0.364 mg/L. |

Five water samples will be collected from four temporary MWs advanced to the North, East, South and West of the former UST excavation. The groundwater samples will be analyzed for BTEX and groundwater direction will be determined. The well installation, sampling, and report preparation will be performed by a qualified impartial third party. |

Five water samples were collected from four temporary MWs advanced to the North, East, South and West of the former UST excavation. Only MW RSE-S4 located west of the former UST excavation adjacent to the RR tracks, contained benzene above cleanup levels at 0.00585 mg/L. Groundwater flows to the east. |

Cleanup Complete Determination Issued |
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), Contaminated Sites Program, has completed a review of the environmental records associated with the ARRC Former Sunshine Section House Heating Oil Tank (HOT). Based on the information provided to date and the administrative record, the ADEC has determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining on site do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. No further remedial action will be required as long as the site is in compliance with established institutional controls. |
