Problems/Comments
Fuel and solvent contamination discovered in May 2000 during an expansion project of the Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Action Information
Action Date | Action | Description | DEC Staff |
---|---|---|---|
12/15/1998 | Update or Other Action | Approved a request to leave an approximate 25 cubic yard stockpile of contaminated soils on site through Aprill 1999. The soils were placed on top of heavy duty tarps with a continuous sheet of 6-mil reinforced poly sheet | Eileen Olson |
2/1/2007 | Site Added to Database | Site added to the database. | Mitzi Read |
2/2/2007 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | Baseline ranking completed. | Mitzi Read |
3/22/2012 | Update or Other Action | Called Dowl Engineers requesting information. | Katrina Chambon |
6/19/2013 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 75330 Fuel/Solvents in Construction Excavation. | Katrina Chambon |
12/23/2013 | Update or Other Action | Call to RP requesting laboratory data and work report. | Katrina Chambon |
12/27/2013 | Potentially Responsible Party/State Interest Letter | Katrina Chambon | |
9/11/2014 | Update or Other Action | Several aerial photographs were viewed from 1950 until 2000. A shed/garage structure was present in 1974 and 1975 in the area where contamination was encountered. The shed was not observed in 1970 or 1978. Prior to 1970, the area was vegetated and after 1978, the area was a parking lot. The hospital expansion was completed in 2000. | Joshua Barsis |
9/17/2014 | Update or Other Action | CSP sent a letter to inform RP of data gaps that currently exist. | Joshua Barsis |
8/12/2015 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed the Site Assessment Report, dated July 27, 2015. The objective of this assessment was to “determine the nature and extent of petroleum and solvent contamination in soil and groundwater”. To meet this objective, analytical soil samples were collected from three test holes advanced adjacent to Tower E, in the general area where contamination was identified. Test pits were advanced to a maximum of 12.5 feet bgs; however, the test pits were placed on a hill, and were at least 15 feet above the building foundation (where contamination was originally encountered). In a letter dated August 14, 2015 ADEC requested additional investigation to meet project objectives. | Joshua Barsis |
9/23/2015 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 75330 Fuel/Solvents in Construction Excavation. | Joshua Barsis |
1/12/2016 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed the Work Plan for Additional Site Characterization Activities, dated January 11, 2016. Proposed activities include collecting soil and groundwater samples from three soil borings that will also be used as groundwater well points, collecting a groundwater sample from a sump located within the Tower E basement, and collecting soil-gas samples from two soil-gas probes that will be installed adjacent to Tower E to a maximum depth of 8 feet below ground surface. | Joshua Barsis |
7/21/2016 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed the Additional Site Characterization report, dated July 2016 for the Providence Hospital Expansion Project site. The site characterization mainly consisted of collecting soil and groundwater samples from two soil borings that were also used as groundwater well points, collecting a groundwater sample from a sump located within the Tower E basement, and collecting soil-gas samples from two soil-gas probes that will be installed adjacent to Tower E. Residual range organics (RRO) and tetrachloroethane (PCE) were present in the soil and water samples; and gasoline range organics (GRO), benzene, and chloroform were present in the water samples. All compounds detected above laboratory limits of quantitation were below the most stringent ADEC cleanup levels. All soil-gas samples were below target levels. | Joshua Barsis |
7/27/2016 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 75330 Fuel/Solvents in Construction Excavation. | Lisa Griswold |
9/16/2016 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | Lisa Griswold |
