10/20/2005 | Site Characterization Report Approved | On this date, ADEC received a Site Characterization and Cleanup Operation Report for Koyukuk Airport SREB, dated October 20, 2005, and submitted by Oasis. The site has a history of various petroleum spills and leaks in the SREB. Six petroleum impacted areas were located and field screened. Four areas based off field screening, were analyzed for BTEX, DRO, GRO, & RRO. Samples were collected from the surface soil, from 4 to 6 inches bgs, contained DRO up to 5,100 mg/kg, and RRO up to 20,000 mg/kg . The surface soil was then removed down to 1 foot bgs and up to 4 ft. bgs on the north side of the building and stockpiled. Three confirmation samples, collected inside the SREB, based off field screening, collected 4 to 6 inches bgs, was ND for DRO and RRO( note: BTEX and GRO were not analyzed). The approximately 75 cubic yards stockpiled soil was moved to the airport apron, approximately 100 ft. south of the SREB and was later reportedly used as a sub-base layer for construction of a new runway in October of 2005. Four stockpile samples, collected 18 inches into the pile, contained DRO up to 1,200 mg/kg (note: BTEX and GRO were not analyzed). | Grant Lidren |

6/10/2009 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), Contaminated Sites Program, has completed review of the environmental records associated with the ADOT&PF SREB - Koyukuk. Based on the information provided to date, the ADEC has determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining on site do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment, and this site is closed. | Grant Lidren |
