Problems/Comments

Location of Gate Valve 4. The Corps of Engineers has identified the most likely locations where petroleum contamination might be present, including: 1) valves, 2) locations of documented spills, 3) locations where contamination has been noted by local residents or other persons, and 4) scraper traps and pump stations. These locations were the basis for the Site Investigations that were conducted in order to determine if petroleum contamination is present along the pipeline.

Presence of contamination was confirmed at this site; additional characterization will be conducted in 2007. 4 samples were collected below the valve in the vault and DRO was found exceeding cleanup levels. 9/4/2008 Site Characterization Report Approved Letter sent to the USACE approving the 2007 Site Investigation Report, CH2M Hill, July 2008. 12 passive soil gas probes were installed and no contamination detected. Contamination is likely localized below the vault. The valve and vault could not be pulled during the 2007 investigation as it is too close to the roadbed for the Haines Highway. ADOT&PF plans to realign this section of highway in the next few years and the USACE will address the contamination at that time. Anne Marie Palmieri
