Problems/Comments

Location of Gate Valve #56. The Corps of Engineers has identified the most likely locations where petroleum contamination might be present, including: 1) valves, 2) locations of documented spills, 3) locations where contamination has been noted by local residents or other persons, and 4) scraper traps and pump stations. These locations were the basis for the Site Investigations that were conducted in order to determine if petroleum contamination is present along the pipeline. 5/6/15: The AKARNG was not granted site access by Tanacross Inc. therefore, project activities cannot be done within the Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) Program.

9/11/2014 Site Characterization Report Approved The ADEC Contaminated Site Program approved the Final Environmental Investigation, Gate Valve #56 Haines-Fairbanks Pipeline FUDS Site, Tok, Alaska. DRO was detected above the cleanup levels in soil samples collected in the vicinity of the gate valve. Soil contamination was found at a depth corresponding to the bottom of the gate valve in borings directly adjacent to the gate valve and increased in depth at further distances from the gate valve. Additional investigation is needed to determine the vertical extent of soil contamination. The impact to groundwater is unknown. Jessica Morris
