Problems/Comments

Gate Valve #58 is located at PMP 458.75, AHMP 1347.75 on the north side of the Robertson River crossing. The valve box was located in 2001 and a petroleum odor was noted. Diesel range organics (DRO) is the contaminant of concern for the site. The contamination was limited. The concrete vault was removed by CH2M in 2007; the valve itself had already been salvaged by unknown parties (CH2M, 2008). It is presumed that the pipeline itself remains in place in this location. Although there were no documented petroleum releases, petroleum contamination in the soil was discovered at the vault in 2001. As a result, 20 cubic yards of contaminated soil was excavated and disposed of in 2007. Further investigation found that petroleum contaminated soil remained belowground and in 2017, approximately 41 tons of petroleum contaminated soil was excavated and disposed of. All of the confirmation soil samples had petroleum concentrations below the most stringent ADEC cleanup levels.

5/23/2017 Site Characterization Workplan Approved Approved the Bristol work plan this date. The scope of the project is to remove up to 200 tons of petroleum contaminated soil from the site using the 2007 test pit (CH2M) as a starting point. The excavation will be guided by head space photoionization detection (PID) readings unless there is a gas chromatography (GC) field screening laboratory available on or near to the site. Danielle Duncan
7/6/2017 Update or Other Action Bristol removed approximately 48 tons of petroleum-contaminated soil from Gate Valve #58. They believe they removed all of the soil above cleanup levels based on screening. The confirmation sample results are not available yet but we are optimistic that we will get clean closure at Gate Valve #58. Danielle Duncan
