4/8/2008 | Site Added to Database | Site added to the database. | Mitzi Read |
4/9/2008 | Site Characterization Workplan Approved | Phase II work plan received for West End Nomination Well. #5 boreholes are proposed for the gravel pad and 22 boreholes for the surrounding tundra. Following field screening, samples will be analyzed for DRO/RRO with 25% of samples also analyzed for GRO/BTEX. Additional characterization will be performed in summer 2008 in accordance with a supplemental work plan on an as-needed basis. | Bill O'Connell |
10/24/2008 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | Initial ranking with ETM completed for source area id: 78578 name: Historical diesel contamination | Bill O'Connell |
10/28/2008 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Received Phase II and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for West End Nomination Well. The Phase II investigation included 40 boreholes and 4 test pits at the gravel pad and 21 boreholes in the tundra surrounding the pad. At the gravel pad, DRO concentrations ranged from ND to 3,960 mg/kg in one sample adjacent the well head. Most of the gravel pad had not been impacted. DRO was detected in one tundra sample at 333 mg/kg, all other tundra samples had DRO less than 100 mg/kg. Please see the next entry for CAP details. | Bill O'Connell |
10/28/2008 | Cleanup Plan Approved | Corrective Action Plan for West End Nomination well includes removal of the entire gravel pad and backfilling of the reserve pit. The Phase II data indicates one area of contaminated gravel adjacent the former well; this material will be excavated and transported to G&I for injection as E&P exempt material. The remaining conditional use gravel (DRO < 500 mg/kg) will be used as backfill in the reserve pit, capped by clean gravel and tundra overburden. Composite confirmation samples will be collected from the impacted areas around the well head, with one discreet sample at the location of borehole GP 39. Clean gravel will be used on site as needed or transported off site for re-use. | Bill O'Connell |
10/15/2009 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed Corrective Action Report for West End Nomination Well. The entire gravel pad was removed and the reserve pit excavated and capped. APproximately 18,235 cy of clean gravel was removed from the gravel pad and transported to the Dead Arm Mine site and to W Pad for beneficial reuse, approximately 500 cy of clean gravel was used onsite as reserve pit and gravel pad backfill, and approximately 500 cy of conditional use gravel was removed and transported to Pad 37 for use as reserve pit backfill. Confirmaton soil samples contained DRO up to 118 mg/kg. PAHs were not detected above cleanup levels. | Bill O'Connell |
11/9/2009 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 78578 Historical diesel contamination. | Bill O'Connell |
11/24/2009 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Contaminated Sites Program (ADEC) has completed a review of the environmental records associated with BPX West End Nomination Well located near Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Based on the information provided to date, it has been determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining on site do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment and this site will be closed. | Bill O'Connell |
