Problems/Comments
As part of the Strategic Reconfiguration (SR) activities in 2007 at PS 03, two 800 kilovolt CAT generators were staged and operated west of the Main Pump Building. Alyeska discovered spills at each of the generators in estimated quantities of less than 5 gallons each. South Generator (2007-IR-15416) spill was excavated shortly after its discovery in 2007. Confirmation samples contained up to 869 mg/kg DRO. North Generator (2007-IR-15721) spill was also excavated shortly after its discovery in 2007. No confirmation samples were collected.

2/13/2009 | Update or Other Action | Receipt of Pump Station 3 Strategic Reconfiguration Generator Spill Remediation Report by SLR. The 2007 excavation were relocated and excavated in 2008 to remove any remaining soil contamination. Analytical results below Method One cleanup levels and most conservative criteria. Alyeska has requested a cleanup complete decision. Report review included laboratory review checklist. Xylenes and RRO for NG-SS-1 and NG-SS-4 should be considered estimated due to imprecision of field duplicates; however, no significant impact to the quality of the data as all xylene and RRO results are much less than most conservative criteria. | Keather McLoone |
2/27/2009 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 78399 north generator. | Keather McLoone |
2/27/2009 | Exposure Tracking Model Ranking | A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 78400 south generator. | Keather McLoone |
3/5/2009 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), Contaminated Sites Program, has completed a review of the environmental records associated with Alyeska PS 03 SR Generator Spills. Based on the information provided to date, the ADEC has determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining on site do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment, and this site is closed. This decision is based on the administrative record for Alyeska PS 03 SR Generator Spills, which is located in the offices of the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) in Anchorage, Alaska.
