Problems/Comments

In March 2007, an aboveground home heating oil tank was damaged and discharged 150-225 gallons of diesel fuel. The fuel passed beneath the house and impacted the hillside below the house. The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), while conducting sewer and storm water work, discovered fuel in a right of way that appears to be related to the discharge. CBJ has removed the contamination from the area of construction in the right of way, but additional contamination may be located in other areas of the right of way. A contractor has installed an in situ treatment system for the application of fertilizer slurry.
