Problems/Comments
The McGrath Tribal Council Hall, which was known as Chamai Center, was destroyed by fire on December 24, 2006. During cleanup of debris the following summer, the UST that had been located underneath the building was exposed and suspected fuel-contaminated soil was discovered. This site is being assessed through the DEC Brownfield Assessment program in response to a request from the community, which would like to reuse this property for construction of a new Tribal hall. Lots 29 and 30 are within U.S. Survey 3140, McGrath Townsite Plat No. 17.078.

2/24/2009 | Site Characterization Report Approved | DEC received the UST Closure and Site Characterization Report for the Former McGrath Tribal Council Hall site. During 2008, the UST and approximately 100 cubic yards of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted soil were excavated and landspread adjacent to the landfill. The excavation extended to approximately 10 feet bgs. Field screening samples and four confirmation samples (including one duplicate) were collected from the excavation. One field screening sample was collected from the landspread soil for every 10 cubic yards. Three confirmation samples were collected from the areas in the landspread soil that had elevated PID readings. Confirmation samples were analyzed for DRO, BTEX and PAHs. All the samples results were below DEC cleanup levels. | Deborah Williams |
