Problems/Comments
n FY92, a 500-gallon heating oil AST 52-A-7 located east of Greenhouse Building 303 was decommissioned. During decommissioning, ground surface staining was observed. Approximately 11 cu. yds of fuel-affected soil were excavated and temporarily stockpiled. This soil was combined with fuel-affected soil generated from the decommissioning of other USTs at Northway and placed in the excavations left from the decommissioning of USTs 52-A-2 through 52-A-5 (see Fuel-Contaminated Stockpile Soil Associated with Four Removed 20,000 G Diesel USTs [52-A-2 through 52-A-5]). Field screening and laboratory analytical results for soil samples collected from the excavation limits detected concentrations below ADEC cleanup criteria. Based on the results, this AOC was recommended for clean closure. On 4/14/93, FAA received NFA approval from ADEC. Highest contaminant concentration found was 92.7 mg/kg EPH at 2.9 feet bgs. Groundwater was not encountered during excavation. Drinking water is derived from wells drilled to a deep aquifer (200 ft bgs) below permafrost layer. The greenhouse has since been demolished
