Action Date Action Description DEC Staff
9/14/1987 Preliminary Assessment Approved Transformer oil with PCBs found at site. 66 drums of contaminated equipment, soil, and investigation derived waste removed from site. Extent of soil contamination remaining unknown. Migration from site isn't expected to be significant. Former Staff
9/23/1988 Update or Other Action (Old R:Base Action Code = NFA - No Further Action Required (CERCLA)). Former Staff
4/22/1990 Site Added to Database Polychlorinated biphenyls. Former Staff
4/6/1992 Site Closure Approved This site is closed out due to the contaminated soils excavated and remediated. In the fall of 1991, the contaminated soils were removed from the Ohlson Mountain site and transported by truck to Alaska Environmental Specialists, Inc. The contaminated soils were remediated by incorporating the material in a cold asphalt process and paved a private airport runway at Nikiski, Alaska. The Army Corps of Engineers took verification samples for site closure. The sample results were received by the Department on April 6, 1992. The soil samples results were all within the Department's cleanup levels. Former Staff
12/9/1992 Site Ranked Using the AHRM Insufficient comments provided to allow proper audit. Former Staff
2/17/1994 Update or Other Action (Old R:Base Action Code = RAPR - Remedial Action Plan Review (CS)). Conditional approval was provided for sealing asphalt made from contaminated soils originating from this site. Former Staff

Metadata includes No Topo Basemap, TopoZone Pro Street Maps, Black and White Aerial Photo, on a Medium Size Map, View Scale 1:24,000, Coordinate Datum, NAD83. High degree of confidence in accuracy of location. Alyce Hughey
6/30/2009 Update or Other Action The Corps of Engineers submitted a Site Closure Decision Document to DEC for concurrence to document that the prior site characterization and cleanup work was done in accordance with cleanup requirements in place at the time the work was done. DEC signed the decision document, which includes a reopener clause in the event new information becomes available and indicates the site may pose an unacceptable risk. John Halverson
