Problems/Comments

Three water supply wells in the area were found to be contaminated with benzene in 1988. Undetermined but possible sources include underground injection wells; waste oil barrels; above and below ground fuel tanks; or undetermined spills. Groundwater samples collected in 1988; UIC samples collected 1989. Extent of contamination may be determined through South Fairbanks Groundwater Study. See file 100.07.313. Possible LUST site. 12/11/2007 Site Closure Approved ADEC has determined that hazardous substance contamination suspected at the Sunshine Rae property does not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. There is no documented evidence that contamination is present on site above established cleanup levels and the possible sources have been remediated to no longer discharge directly to the environment. As a result of this determination, ADEC requires no further remedial action and the site is approved for closure status. Neal Everson
