7/25/1989 Update or Other Action (Old R:Base Action Code = MS - Monitoring/Sampling). HLA had 4' of soil along east and north walls of excavation was stained and had slight petroleum hydrocarbon odor. 2 soil samples E and F had volatile organic compounds of 170 and 100 ppm respectively. TPH EPA method 418.1 soil samples ranged from 7.1-20mg/kg. Former Staff
7/27/1989 Site Closure Approved After review of report doesn't appear to require additional assessment or remediation at site. Per R. Klein DEC. Ron Klein
9/29/1993 Notice of Violation NOV issued based on findings from a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) inspection conducted on June 9 and 11, 1993 at the 2488 W. International Road Northern Air Cargo (NAC) facility. Violations included failing to meet regulations pertaining to used oil tha is burned for energy recovery and failing to properly store hazardous waste, in this case visqueen that was in contact with methylene chloride used to strip paint. NAC was required to make adequate hazardous wste determinations on spent Chevron 365 stoffard solvent and on the sludge from parts cleaning tanks. Various storage and labeling violations were noted, some of which were remedied by the time the NOV was sent. Janice Adair

10/9/1997 Update or Other Action Site reopened based on discovery of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination during ditching work by Anchorage International Airport field crews. Eileen Olson
5/28/1998 Update or Other Action Rec'd letter from Northern Air Cargo by fax reporting release discovered on October 9, 1997 whlie Anchorage International Airport field crews were performing ditch work next to NAC's operations ramp. Contamination apparently from many years of stormwater runoff that carried traces of oil from surface spills (drippings from aircraft engines) off the asphalt onto the soil in question. Eileen Olson

Environmental consultant requested "Permission to Transport POL contaminated soils from the Northern Air Cargo (NAC) facility at Anchorage International Airport for thermal remediation at Alaska Soil Recycling (ASR)." 11/10/1998 Update or Other Action Laboratory Results for Third Party Sampling and analysis for DRO of this date provided to DEC by Oil Spill Consultants; results were 77 and 54 mg/K, below the Departments most stringent cleanup levels for DRO, and sampling was done in accordance with the approved work plan.. 11/12/1998 Update or Other Action Received confirmation that 25.17 tons of petroleum impacted soil was received and thermally treated to the most stringent cleanup level (Level A) at Alaska Soil Recycling. Eileen Olson
