Update or Other Action |
(Old R:Base Action Code = RAPR - Remedial Action Plan Review (CS)). Staff proposes using 470 funds to conduct excavation of the most seriously contaminated surface soils and capping of the immediate area with a suitable geotextile membrane and backfill material available on site. Contaminated soils, numerous drums of mixed petroleum products and water, and others containing as yet unidentified fluids will be stockpiled in a secure, fenced and locked compound to be constructed north of the village. Emergency activities will be followed by a comprehensive site assessment of the contaminated area, and the development of a range of remedial alternatives to be used as the basis for the pursuit of further funding. Activities are scheduled for the end of the 1991 field season. $94,000 requested for excavation and $50,000 requested for contaminated site assessment. Funds approved. |

Interim Removal Action Approved |
(Old R:Base Action Code = REM - Removal / Excavation). VRCA commenced containment activities at the former tank farm and generator facility site. Approximately 35 drums of diesel fuel and water mixture, waste oils, gasoline, and insulation compounds were either transferred to new 55 gallon drums or placed in overpacked drums and stockpiled in a lined, bermed containment facility located in a maintenance building north of the village. Contaminated surface soils were scraped from most of the site and mounded in two of the most heavily fuel contaminated locations. Mounded soils were covered with an impermeable membrane, and scraped areas covered with a geotextile filter fabric. Entire site capped with 12 inches backfill. |
