Problems/Comments

Contaminated soil and sheens in fresh and marine waters due to miscellaneous spills. Jim Moe and Steve Segovia contacts at Ketchikan USFS district office. Moe sent letter advising responsibility as landowner and need for their action as Sullivan Logging insolvent. Sullivan logging was issued a Notive of Violation by KDO, but is bankrupt, and moved off site. Also documented violations by previous operator Seley Corp. USFS conducting cleanup.

9/23/2004 Underground Storage Tank Site Characterization or Assessment Project summary: Contaminated soil was excavated and placed in a biocell. In 1998, the biocell was dismantled and the soils sent to Ketchikan. The 1998 cleanup report states that the confirmation sample results had been lost. 9/2/2016 Update or Other Action On this date, DEC sent a letter to the USFS requesting action on a number of sites. For this site, DEC stated: A cleanup of petroleum-contaminated soil was conducted at this LTF in the late 1990s. In 1999, the USFS provided a Final Cleanup Report which stated that the confirmation sample results had been inadvertently disposed of. After several discussions, in 2004, DEC requested that soil samples be collected in the area of the excavation in order to determine if all of the contamination was removed. To date, DEC has not received a work plan for this work. DEC requests that the USFS provide a work plan to DEC for review and approval, conduct the soil sampling, and provide a report to DEC by June 1, 2017. Anne Marie Palmieri
