Problems/Comments

On October 10, 1990, several surface oil stains were reported behind the building, around empty and full oil barrels, and around engine parts. Five-gallon cans of solvent cleaners were also found in the yard. On April 12, 1991 a highly damaged 55-gallon drum containing waste oil was reported. Total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) levels were 31,500 parts per million (ppm) and 4 cubic yards of soil were excavated and stockpiled on site. During this cleanup, the top half of a 500-gallon underground storage tank (UST) was found. Another area of concern is the Floor Drain. The maximum levels were extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (EPH) at 30,000 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg), TPH at 59,000 mg/kg, lead at 980 mg/kg, and chromium at 55 mg/kg. These soils were thermally treated at Clean Soils in Anchorage. One of the stained surface contamination ran off onto adjoining property. Groundwater was encountered at 8 to 10 feet.
