1/11/2012 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Reviewed the 2011 Groundwater Monitoring Report, Drift River Facility Avgas site, dated December 28, 2011, from Oil Risk Consultants. In March of 2009 Mt. Redoubt erupted and the site was inundated by a volcanic mudflow. Lahar deposits filled the fuel tank containment but no fuel was released. The summer of 2009 field activities included removing up to five feet thick of Lahar deposits from the airstrip and surrounding area. During the eruption and the cleanup activities that followed, several monitoring wells were destroyed, leaving only two remaining at the site (AF-1 and AF-4). On July 27, 2011 the two remaining groundwater monitoring wells were sampled, with Benzene returning to the source area monitoring well AF-1 at a concentration of 0.0237 mg/L. The groundwater and surrounding floodplain elevations increased after the eruption, and it is thought that the increase in concentrations within monitoring well AF-1 could be due to the groundwater elevation increasing. Alyce Hughey
