Problems/Comments

Hydrocarbon contaminated soil at former contractor sump. Analytical results indicate that extractable petroleum hydrocarbon (EPH) constituents have migrated 50 feet southeast from the former contractor sump location. EPH concentrations above 1,500 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) were obtained at depths ranging from 2.5 to 11 feet below grade. It appears that some vertical "smearing" has occurred at borings 232-4B and 232-4K, where elevated EPH concentrations (1,500 to 4,200 mg/kg) are present above and below the water table. The "smearing" effect was most likely caused by water table fluctuations.

One monitoring well and one micro well were sampled on November 6, 2012. The wells were sampled for DRO, GRO and BTEX. Well 232-4-1 had no detectable concentrations in the water sample. Well 232-4-3 had an estimated 1.1 mg/L DRO, and trace levels of toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene. Conoco Phillips has made a request that ADEC consider closing this site. We are evaluating the results and will review the historical file. Peter Campbell
4/10/2015 Long Term Monitoring Complete Monitoring wells removed. Peter Campbell
12/18/2015 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued ADEC has determined that the residual contamination doesn’t pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. We are issuing this Cleanup Complete determination, subject to the following standard conditions: Any proposal to transport soil or groundwater off-site requires ADEC approval in accordance with 18 AAC 75.325. A “site” [as defined by 18 AAC 75.990 (115)] means an area that is contaminated, including areas contaminated by the migration of hazardous substances from a source area, regardless of property ownership. Movement or use of contaminated material in a manner that results in a violation of 18 AAC 70 water quality standards is prohibited. Peter Campbell
