Gaseous Monitoring Instruments

Instruments that measure gaseous pollution (carbon monoxide, nitrogen monoxide, ozone, sulfur dioxide, and others) are not filter based unlike most particulate monitors. These methods include chemiluminescence, infra-red absorption photometry, and ultra-violet absorption photometry. These types of instruments self-calibrate and rely on separate supply of the specific gas at a known concentration.

An NCore site, like the one in Fairbanks, is part of a national network of such sites which monitor multiple pollutants, both gaseous and particulate. The Fairbanks NCore site houses the most varied collection of gaseous monitors that DEC operates. The photos below show a typical NCore collection of gaseous monitors.
