Site Narrative

The Klawock Cooperative Association requested DBAC services to conduct a HBM survey and assessment of potential contamination at three aboveground fuel storage tanks at a building formerly used as a clinic. The intended reuse of the building is for future tribal housing.

In FY19, DEC conducted a Property Assessment and Cleanup Plan (PACP) which included a Hazardous Building Materials (HBM) survey and soil sampling, and presented cleanup alternatives with cost estimates. A small volume of asbestos cement material (ACM) was found to be present; however, lead-based paint was found on exterior building walls and had flaked onto soil. No petroleum-contaminated soil was detected. Cleanup is needed before the building can be renovated and reused.
