Juneau State Office Mailing Address Update

All mail sent to the DEC office in Juneau through the U.S. Postal Service must be addressed to P.O. Box 111800. Beginning October 1, all mail addressed to our Willoughby Avenue address will not be delivered and will be returned to sender by the Post Office. This change only impacts incoming mail to the Juneau office.

F/V Northern Mariner

The location of the grounding was Flemming Island in Prince William Sound, approximately 75 miles Southwest of Valdez. The reported location is 60° 10.58’ N, 148° 00.18’ W.
Time/Date of Incident
The vessel grounding near Flemming Island in Prince William Sound was reported to U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) at 8:09 PM on August 7, 2008. USCG notified ADEC at 9:54 PM on August 7, 2008.
Spill Number
The vessel master initially estimated that 25,000 to 28,000 gallons of diesel fuel, and 350 gallons of lube and hydraulic oil were on board when the vessel grounded. Light sheening associated with residual oil from the compromised engine room was observed at the time of grounding; however, as of August 9, 2008, no further sheening has been observed.
F/V Northern Mariner, a 91-ft vessel, intentionally grounded in shallow water on Flemming Island after the vessel struck a rock and experienced severe flooding. Two 15 inch by 1inch tears were reported in the port bow and vessel began flooding. The four crew members abandoned the vessel to a life raft and were picked up by F/V Tenacious and transported to Whittier. No injuries were reported from the incident.
